Austin Texas 2011 "Multi-Faith / Multi-Cultural" Calendar |
|
Originally the site of a village called Waterloo, Austin was selected to become the capital of Texas in 1839. The University of Texas was established in the city less than fifty years later, bringing professors and students to reside alongside civil servants. In the late 1990s it became known as the "Live Music Capital of the World," in recognition of its numerous music venues and the musical careers launched here over the years. More recently Austin earned the name "Silicon Hills" for it's high-tech economy. The 12 sets of paintings and illustrations in the 2011 version of the calendar capture Austin's dynamic spirit, accompanying each month's important civic and religious dates, in addition to many well-known Austin events such as the Capitol 10K, First Thursdays on South Congress, South by Southwest and Austin City Limits, Star of Texas Rodeo, to name just a few.
